45 and FABULOUS

Today my favorite TV fashionista celebrates her 45th birthday! As mentioned in a previous post Sarah’s my girl and we over here at Violet Meets Fashion loooove our Carrie Bradshaw. Yes, I know that’s just a character she plays but she’s Carrie in my heart. In fact, it’s weird seeing her in other movies. Having said that, in honor of the birthday girl I’ll be watching Sex and the City all evening! Happy birthday Sarah Jessica Parker.

Live. Life. Fabulously

Midwest Fashion Week Sneak Peek

Midwest Fashion Week is in full swing but almost over! I’ve left you all hanging for a full week but I’ve been super busy with events and casting calls. I will be back to my regular schedule Sunday (probably Monday) and I’ll have a blow-by-blow account of all that went down. To sum it up we’ve had three showings and a fashion panel discussion on bringing fashion back to Indiana called “material girl” (I think) I have ADD and all of the talking sent me on a mental trip to NYC. It’s WISH TV in the morning for a fashion news segment then a casting call from 3-6 followed by a fashion show later in the evening. All of the designers are here and they’re FABULOUS! I can’t wait for you all to see the Masela collection by my new Alaskan friend Designer Kristen Grimes. The collection from the Sachika twins is just as beautiful as they are. They flew in from NYC this morning and are as sweet as ever. Designer Khary Sep is the sweetest guy ever! He has his own collection Celebutante but also designs for Sean John. I’ll introduce you all to local designers Gaby, Berny Martin and Sharon Evans later! For now I’ll leave you with some pics from this week to hold you over until I return! And, hopefully upon my return I’ll have the professional pics from the photographer.

As always beeeeee fabulous!

Who's THAT Girl

Get ready to see a lot of this Victoria's Secret Angel on my blog. She is my love and in my opinion embodies everything a supermodel should be. She’s stunning and I heart her!

With the name Chanel Iman it seems like she was destined to be a model. The 5’10” beauty of Korean and African America decent was born in Atlanta but raised in Culver City, California. The 20-year-old model was discovered by Ford Models in 2006 when she entered the Supermodel of the World Competition. Although Chanel only won 3rd place the competition immediately boosted her career!

Chanel found herself walking the runway for the first time in the Fall/Winter 2006 DKNY show and her career took off after that but her story doesn’t begin here. She soon found herself walking for designers such as Marc Jacobs, Nicole Miller, Valentino, Custo Barcelona, and Diane von Furstenberg and is credited for being the muse of Phillip Lim. Known for her long legs, eyes and her beautiful smile Chanel Iman is one of the most coveted Cover Girls and established models in the industry. She has graced the covers of magazines such as Vogue, Teen Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar’ and many more. In 2009 Chanel was named one of the newest Victoria's Secret Angels, and has set the fashion industry on fire. Move over Naomi Chanel Iman has taken over!

The Oscars Ruined My Night

I don’t know about the rest of you but the most exciting part about the Oscars for me was the red carpet. I actually stopped watching shortly after the show started I was literally almost bored to sleep. Here are some of my favorite looks from the red carpet! What were some of yours?

First on my list is Sarah Jessica Parker. Now I didn’t love her dress but I didn’t hate it. I do however love her and this is my blog so she automatically gets on my list! She’s wearing a butter-colored Chanel couture gown and I think she looks FABULOUS! When I grow up, I want to be SJP/Carrie Bradshaw!

Gabbi Sidibe is also wearing Marchesa and she looked amazing! Although she didn’t win she was a fashion winner on the red carpet!

I believe Tina Fey may have been listening when people talked about how much of a fashion fail her Golden Globes dress was. I actually thought she looked like Mary Poppins in her Zac Posen dress carrying that umbrella. She managed to turn it around for the Oscars. I thought she looked amazing in the black beaded leopard print, one shoulder dress designed by Michael Kors.

Vera Farmiga is wearing a ruffled fuschia gown from Marchesa that I absolutely adore. I loved the dress before I knew it was by Marchesa, after that discovery I love it even more! These designers are quickly becoming my favorite. I often go to their website and dream about the day I’ll actually be able to go to buy every dress on the page.

I thought Queen Latifah looked stunning in her bead embellished lavender satin gown from Badgley Mischka Couture. I love seeing her all dolled up.

Fashionable First Fridays

Here are a few snap shots of some of the fabulous people I met during the Indy Swank event!

Pic 1: Model Julie Ward wearing a fabulous piece by designer Berny Martin of Catou paired with glasses and a handbag from Indy SWANK.

Pic 2: Nikki Sutton’s one stylish chick! Violet loves your glasses. The blazer paired with the tweed shorts are classic

Pic 3: Justin Mog (l) and Jacob Cummings (r) I loved how they were dressed. Justin’s Marc Jacobs bag is simply marvelous

Pic 4: A group of students enjoying some of the vintage handbags and sunglasses at the boutique

Violet Loves Vintage

Yesterday I ventured over to the up and coming Fountain Square neighborhood for First Fridays to check out the local boutiques. I’d been asked to book some models for a fashion showing and decided to visit them to see how they were doing. The girls were showcasing clothes at Indy SWANK, a fairly new boutique located in the Murphy building. I was expecting an uptight crowd and overpriced clothes but what I found was soooo much better!!! The diverse crowd was a mix of college students and art lovers but best of all Indy SWANK is a VINTAGE boutique! Violet hearts Vintage! Throughout the evening people trickled in and out of the store in heavy rotation. The wine and loud music actually made me feel like I was at an event in New York City. The lines at the register were long but the 50% off sale made the wait well worth it. I managed to snag a fabulous gold belt for $8 and I can’t wait to wear it! The store is owned and operated by Jennifer Rice Von Deylen and offers a mixture of vintage clothes, shoes, handbags, furniture and much more. Outside of the designer sleepwear no two pieces are the same. I definitely recommend checking out this boutique if you love unique and vintage pieces. For more information on Jennifer and Indy SWANK check out www.indySWANK.com

Just in time for Midwest Fashion Week

I am super excited, we’re two weeks away from Midwest Fashion Week and all is going well. We have fabulous designers and beautiful models ready to rock the runway. We’ve been doing this for years and the shows get better and better each season. This season our show is at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indy and it’s a beautiful venue. I’m posting some pics from last seasons show for your enjoyment. We were blessed to have supermodel Megan McNierney, Ms. Teen Indiana Bailee Zimmerman and Ms. Teen Indiana World Kimberly Bogle grace our runway last season. I hope all of you come out to the shows we know it’s the same night as the Jay Z concert so if that’s not your thing we’d love to see you at the show! I’ll be doing back stage interviews with the models and designers and of course I’ll be posting them right here on this blog! We have some surprises that I can’t wait for you all to see!
